How to Use a Flocked Tongue Swab for Oral Specimen Collection?
Tongue swab collection is a convenient and non-invasive method for obtaining oral specimens for laboratory testing. A well-designed flocked tongue swab can support efficient specimen collection and sample release, making it suitable for molecular diagnostic workflows and large-scale screening programs.
MandeLab’s MS-OF3601 Sterile Flocked Tongue Swab is designed for tongue coating and oral specimen collection. Its soft flocked tip, optimized breakpoint and sterile individual packaging provide a convenient solution for hygienic and efficient specimen collection.
How to Use a Tongue Swab

1. Open the sterile package
Peel the pouch and remove the swab by holding the end of the shaft. Avoid touching the flocked tip to prevent contamination.
2. Collect the specimen
Ask the patient to open their mouth and slightly tilt the head back. Place the flocked tip against the dorsal surface of the tongue and gently roll it across the tongue coating for approximately 15 seconds to collect the specimen.
3. Put the swab into the transport tube
Insert the swab into the appropriate preservation tube. Align the shaft with the breakpoint and gently bend it to release the swab tip into the tube.
4. Seal and transport
Discard the remaining shaft, securely close the tube and label the specimen according to laboratory procedures. Transport the specimen to the laboratory in accordance with the applicable testing protocol and product instructions for use.
Why Choose MS-OF3601?

-- Efficient specimen collection -- The customized flocked tip provides close contact with the tongue coating and supports efficient specimen capture.
--Efficient sample release -- The flocked structure facilitates specimen release, supporting consistent sample recovery for downstream molecular testing.
--Suitable for molecular diagnostics -- The swab is designed to support downstream molecular testing and compatibility with validated molecular diagnostic workflows.
--Optimized breakpoint design -- The rigid PS shaft and optimized breakpoint allow convenient handling and smooth release of the swab tip into the collection tube.
--Soft and comfortable sampling -- The soft flocked tip is designed for gentle oral sampling and patient comfort.
--Low-fiber-shedding design -- The low-shedding flocked tip helps minimize fiber-related interference in downstream nucleic acid extraction and laboratory workflows.
--Individual packaging -- Each swab is individually packaged in a sterile pouch, supporting hygienic handling and helping reduce the risk of cross-contamination.
